National Service Scheme (NSS) has emerged as a powerful and dynamic youth movement in the country. The NSS is acting as a catalyst to build up the right way of leadership in an institution. The motto of NSS “Not Me, But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop an appreciation for other person’s points of view and also show consideration to ‘other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well reflected in this motto, which underlines the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
To channalise the energy of our students in creative direction a strong NSS Unit with 50 volunteers is functioning in the College. It is a great honour that UIT, Alappuzha is the first UIT which has been allotted with a NSS Unit by the year 2013. The students are actively participating in various caring activities like Blood donation camp in the College, cleaning the college campus, Palliative care activities, distribution of study kits, food and medicine distribution for the patients and afforestation activities. With in a period of seven years of its activities, the NSS unit of UIT Alappuzha was able to receive the appreciation and acclaim of the entire Society in Alappuzha. This is specifically so during the last year’s flood in which our college was one of the Relief Camp in Alappuzha and the subsequent rehabilitation works. During 2017 and2018, the NSS unit of our college with the participation of Alappuzha Municipality had conducted the marriage of Ten inmates of the Alappuzha Orphanage.
